"The last few months I've had it hard, in terms of not making money. "This week, I went to a care home on Monday. I go live on TikTok. People love the content, they love it. I earned $7 (£5.29) for that TikTok stream. It's an hour. <h4>Belize Bank Limited (BBL) has signed a six-year agreement with Amsterdam-based Backbase to deploy the vendor’s AI-Native Banking OS across its retail and business banking operations. The deal is positioned as the largest banking modernisation in Belize to date, covering a client base of more than 100,000 and an institution that holds roughly 43% of the country’s total banking assets.</h4>The partnership will layer Backbase’s platform above BBL’s existing Finastra core system rather than replacing it. Backbase’s Connectivity Layer, branded Grand Central, handles integration between the two environments, allowing BBL to add a modern customer-facing and mid-office stack without undertaking a full core migration. The composable, core-agnostic model, which Backbase emphasises in this deal, is increasingly the dominant commercial pitch in the sector: banks reluctant to absorb the cost and risk of a full core swap are instead adding engagement and AI layers on top of existing infrastructure.Belize sits at the intersection of Central America and the Caribbean and operates under a regulatory environment supervised by the Central Bank of Belize. The country’s banking sector is relatively concentrated, with BBL’s 43% asset share making it a systemically significant institution in a small economy. A successful modernisation at that scale would be a credible reference for Backbase in other small-nation or emerging-market deployments where legacy infrastructure and limited IT capacity are common constraints.The six-year contract length is notable.
